Catherine Giblin - LSC

Learning Support Co-Ordinator

I am very excited this year to be continuing my passion for literacy, formulating programmes and devising strategies to help support our tamariki who think and learn outside of the square. I am passionate about making education equitable for all, providing learning opportunities, supporting kaiako and kaiawhina and devising special programmes that meet each individuals, unique needs.

Tayla-Surf Middleton - Manukura Kaiarahi

I am the Manukura Akona kaimahi that works within the kura. I am an ex-student of Kawerau South School and returning back to my old kura has been so rewarding for me.

I am employed through Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau Hauora and contracted to the schools where I help Tamariki who are referred into our service for a various amount of reasons.

I work with Tamariki that need that little extra awhi with their behaviour, by working on healthy deregulation. I also offer advocacy for Tamariki and support their whānau in a range of different settings.

Ideally, the purpose of my role is to enhance the social, health and educational outcomes for the Tamariki referred. I am a mentor for all Tamariki within the schools that I support. If anything, I am someone for the kids to sit and talk with to advance their well-being within the school, I am also someone that the children can trust.

My key role is to protect all children that I see, by making sure the child’s needs are understood within the school and the home.
